Northern Stage - Northern Stages

Northern Stage - Northern Stages

Throughout 2010 Northern Stage have been showcasing the work of 40 artists from around the world in a project entitled Northern Stages. This is a global conversation about Northernness, and a celebration of the theatre's 40th birthday. Artists might be from the North of their country or continent, or their work explores Northernness in an engaging or unexpected way. An ambitious project, acting as a window onto the world, to provoke debate about the meaning of Northernness, and the diverse ways in which we use and interpret the idea of the stage.

Working with the Northern Stage team, Haus are project managing Northern Stages, to programme and deliver the project in full throughout 2010. Northern Stages will include the work of theatre makers, writers, photographers, painters and musicians. Work will have a presence both within the building and within an interactive online space, which we commissioned and helped developed; this innovative space allows for new connections and collaborations, as well as creating a legacy for the project. We also commissioned an online data visualisation project Northe, which captures our audience's opinions and feelings on the North. In April we managed, and helped to programme, Looking North a conference exploring what North means in the 21st Century.
