The Forge - Metamorphosis

The Forge - Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a legacy initiative managed by participatory arts organisation The Forge to facilitate creative programmes with young people in County Durham.

In 2005, the Department for Culture Media and Sport declared Durham a designated Cultural Hub, encouraging inclusive, forward-thinking creative projects to take place with young people in the region, partnering schools and arts, cultural and heritage organisations across the North East. After a very successful 3 years of the scheme under the management of The Forge, the new transition programme Metamorphosis was developed to move the initiative forward, and to give schools and artists the chance to firm up their relationships, giving them the confidence to pursue creative learning independently.

The Metamorphosis grant scheme, launched in May 2009, has awarded grants of up to £20,000 each to eight exciting projects which will bring Hubs partners together once again, to develop their relationships and creative practices working with young people. Haus Projects worked with The Forge until early 2010 to deliver this final phase; co-ordinated the grant scheme, delivered events, and shaped some innovative evaluation methods.

Metamorphosis is supported by Arts Council England and Durham County Council.
